28 March 2022 – For the second year running, Chelsea has won the Best Mixed Asset Small Fund Family Group Over Three Years in the Refinitiv Lipper Fund Awards, United Kingdom 2022, for its VT Chelsea Managed Fund range.
Commenting on the award, Darius McDermott, investment adviser to the funds, said: “I’m extremely proud that we are back-to-back winners of the award for Best Small Group in the Mixed Asset category.”
Chelsea Financial Services launched the VT Chelsea Managed Fund range for its clients in June 2017. The four funds are now widely available to all investors.
Fund | Performance over 3 years | Sector average over 3 years | Performance since launch | Sector average since launch |
VT Chelsea Managed Cautious Growth | 20.7% | 12.7% | 24.8% | 14.8% |
VT Chelsea Managed Monthly Income | 26.1% | 12.7% | 35.4% | 14.8% |
VT Chelsea Managed Balanced Growth | 29.3% | 20.3% | 38.2% | 24.3% |
VT Chelsea Managed Aggressive Growth | 35.4% | 40.9% | 49% | 52.9% |
Darius continued: “We launched the fund range almost five years ago, taking our many years of fund selection experience on to the next level for those clients who wanted someone to actively manage their investments for them.
“The support from our clients has been tremendous and I couldn’t be more proud of the team and the fact that we have successfully rewarded those investors for the faith they put in us.
“We leave no stone unturned when it comes to investment opportunities and our philosophy is that we work hard for every single percentage point – both in terms of returns and when it comes to negotiating better fund and trading costs for our underlying investments, which we then pass on by cutting our ongoing charges.
“Pleasingly, each of the funds have had sustained periods of outperformance. At the time of writing, three out of four funds are ahead of their sector average benchmarks over both three years and since launch. What’s more, the Monthly Income fund has so far delivered more than £2,000 of income for every £10,000 invested.”
For more than three decades, the Lipper awards have recognised funds and fund management firms for their consistently strong risk-adjusted three, five, and ten-year performance relative to their peers. Based on Lipper's quantitative, proprietary methodology, the awards reflect a truly independent and uncompromised assessment of fund performance.
To qualify, small fund family groups needed to have at least three distinct portfolios in one of the asset classes – equity, bond or mixed-asset. The lowest average decile rank of the three years’ Consistent Return measure of the eligible funds per asset class and group determined the asset class group award winner over the three-year period. In cases of identical results, the lower average percentile rank will determine the winner. Exempt funds and IMA classifications, Pensions or Unauthorised are excluded from the eligible universe.
