Change of manager for Jupiter Japan Income fund

26th May 2016 – Jupiter Asset Management have today announced Dan Carter has been appointed lead manager of the Jupiter Japan Income fund, with immediate effect. Current lead manager Simon Somerville will be leaving Jupiter after 11 years.

Dan has worked alongside Simon for the past eight years and is currently deputy manager of the Japan Income fund. He has also been lead manager of the Jupiter Japan Select Sicav fund, aimed at international clients, for the past three years.

There is significant overlap between the two portfolios in terms of the companies in which they invest and the funds will continue to be managed alongside each other. There will be no change to the investment philosophy of the fund as Dan, like Simon, seeks to own long-term positions in cash-generative, income-paying Japanese companies that he believes offer growth opportunities that are underappreciated by the market.

Prior to joining Jupiter in 2008, Dan was a fund manager at Odey Asset Management on the Japanese equities team and prior to that was at Baillie Gifford, where he was an investment analyst for both Japanese equities and UK large-cap equities.

Simon will be joining Marathon Asset Management to manage money on behalf of institutional clients.

The Jupiter Japan Income fund will retain its generic 'hold' rating.
